Living in the Now: What is inner harmony?

Everybody wants to live a more fulfilling life. But the beauty of happiness—and feeling harmonious with the world around us — also isn’t something we always need to seek out. In fact, when we open ourselves up to the magic of life and the joy each moment can bring, inner harmony can often find us.

Moments of inner harmony can occur in the most unexpected and wondrous of times. You might be somewhere deep in nature — on a remote beach, in the woods, or on a mountain trail — and suddenly, you feel a deep and meaningful connection with the environment around you. In this moment, you may feel a profound sense of peace, stillness, and oneness with the world. Suddenly, your perspective on everything else going on in your life may also change dramatically as a result.

Finding Harmony in Nature

Your moment of inner harmony could also come while you are deep in the practice of yoga. Perhaps you move into a new position, and suddenly feel a profound alignment between body, mind, and spirit. Many creative individuals say they feel their greatest inner harmony when deep in pursuit of their art, painting, writing, sculpting, or even creating music.

Inner harmony can also manifest in moments of reflection. For example, a person might suddenly become overwhelmed with gratitude for the simple joys and blessings in their life. This deep appreciation for the present moment — and genuine contentment for what they have — can fill the heart with a sense of happiness, peace, and fulfillment like few other things we ever get to experience in life.

A sense of inner harmony can also strike out of the blue in our day-to-day life. It might occur when you suddenly feel a sense of compassion, purpose, or fulfillment after helping another individual in some way. It could be a friend or family member, a neighbor or co-worker, or maybe a complete stranger. Whatever the case, by selflessly extending a helping hand and knowing that you have made even a tiny improvement in their day, you may start to feel inner harmony — and happiness — creeping in!

The Joy of Giving Back

Finally, inner harmony can arise when we start to live without fear of conforming to societal expectations or suppressing our true self. It can occur when we are able to embrace our authenticity unapologetically, and live in alignment with our values, passions, and desires.

If you sometimes find yourself comfortably relinquishing control and surrendering to the natural ebbs and flows of life, you may just be entering the deepest and truest aspects of living in inner harmony.

When you have developed a profound sense of peace, acceptance, and serenity that allows life to unfold naturally — or when you have discovered a newfound sense of freedom, joy, and inner peace that comes from that self-acceptance, that too is inner harmony.

These magical moments are also when many of us are at our happiest, and feel our most contentment in life! It’s when we can begin to experience the true joy and pleasure of a life — and existence — filled with meaning and purpose and spent in the celebration of inner harmony.

Remember: the search for this feeling — for our inner harmony and the happiness it brings — takes time. It’s a journey. It can lead you down many roads. But there are few things in life that are more important in the end.

We wish you good luck with your progress towards this goal, and continued perseverance along the way!
